The Student Association

Programme for 2011-12

At the heart of the College community is the Students' Association. Each year, students elect a President, Vice President, and members of a committee to organise student affairs within the College. The President is a member of the Governing Body of the College and is also an influential member of the Governors' Estates Committee, which has the responsibility for overseeing the development of the College buildings.

The Students' Association is also responsible for organising the social activities within the College, and for charitable fund-raising and organising publications about student life.
In recent years, the Students' Association has become increasingly important in representing students' views - and, through the President, in having a real voice on the future directions of the College.

Russ Kelaart, President

Wow! President of the Student Association and Governor of the College – what a fantastic job! I ran for president because I love to get involved with as much as I can in college, and I wanted a way in which I could really make a difference and stand up on behalf of you guys. Not only within the college, but also to the wider world; something that I think is vital in this time of funding cuts and rising tuition fees. I’m really excited about the year ahead - the previous SA have left us a hard act to follow, but with our new team I am positive we can set some new records and make your time at College the best ever!

Josh McCusker, Vice President

Hey everyone! My role as VP is to work closely with Russell to co-ordinate the movements and activities of the SA, to ensure the SA work efficiently together. I also organise the Tutor Rep system to ensure the student voice is heard and
appreciated. This year I hope to make the Tutor Reps more involved with the activities of the SA, and to ensure that communication between the students and the SA is made more efficient, so that you can all make the most of the wide range of opportunities available to you. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to drop by the office or email me!

Francesca Ward, Communications

Hi everyone, thanks to all of you for electing me. My role is vital to the efficiency of the SA and its communication with the Principalship, staff and students of the College. This includes managing emails, Facebook groups, meetings and ensuring that your SA is organised –not an easy task! My most important aim is to have each student certain of the events and opportunities that FSFC offers; expect many emails and Facebook messages because I don’t want any of you missing out! I love to be involved within the student body, meeting and working with new people and what better way to be involved than being the key to communication. If you want to help out or have any suggestions on how communication can be improved; feel free to email me - I’d love to hear your suggestions or just have a chat!

Beanie Watson, Charities

Hey y'all! I'm thrilled and excited to have this role and can't wait to donate thousands to charity! I have the job of overseeing anything relating to charities (minimal work then...) As a college there are enough of us to really make a difference to peoples lives, BUT the bit that you'll all really be interested in is the fun you'll be having! And fun you WILL be having in whatever way you fancy! I want to hear your thoughts and get you involved - it's something I feel strongly about! SO contact me or just join in on the day... Either way I want to make your college experience brilliant and our charitable donations record breaking!

Michael Di Benedetto, Community Links

Hello there; my role involves maintaining and improving links between the College and the community. There are various aspects to this such as encouraging volunteering and enrichment activities as well as providing an opportunity for students to find job vacancies in the local community. These are all important extra-curricular activities which can give students valuable experience, as well as being a way to help the community, and I am therefore dedicated to providing students with the opportunity to participate in their preferred activities. My committee will be invaluable to me so if you want to get involved, or would like more information, do not hesitate to contact me!

David O'Brien, Treasurer

Hi, my role in the SA is to account for all the 6th Form College SA money, such as funds raised from charity events and ticket sales.  I’ll ensure that all book-keeping is true and accurate and I’ll aim to issue regular financial statements to keep you informed of how YOUR money is being spent. I’ll also be taking part in all the SA activities, promoting events, developing ideas with the SA Group and trying to improve college life for you all. If anyone has any ideas, please approach me round college or find me in the SA office! Much love x

Scott Hill, Sports Officer

Hi! My aim for the coming year is to promote sport at the college. I want people to get involved with recreational sport as well as competitive sports; we have strong teams already at the college but I think we can be even better! I would really like to get the five a-side football going again and get something similar going for the netball. My ideal goal is to get everyone playing sport once or twice a week, I am aware this may not be possible but I will try my best to make as many opportunities as possible so everyone can have a go! If you have any ideas that you think would work please feel free to email me or talk to me around college!

Helena Clough, Personalised Learning

Hey everyone, my role involves making sure you are completely happy with the teaching at this college and ensuring all the new students are settled in, in terms of their studies! I chose to run for the S.A because this stage of our lives is so important for our future and I want to make sure we are all getting the best out it all! We are so lucky to be here, with such a high quality of education, that I think it’s really important to help maintain that and I’m looking forward to the challenge! Any suggestions, just email me or have chat with me if you see me round college!

Polly Cartwright, Performing Arts Officer

Hi there! My main aim for this year is to have a variety of events for you to get involved with at college such as gigs and concerts with bands and singers from college to help your talent be showcased. I also want to make sure everyone is given a chance to get involved with the performing side of college, so whatever your talent is, my aim is to make you known as a performer! SO get involved and make the most of your time at the College.

Natalie Lamy, Publications Officer

Heya! My role on the SA is to advertise all the college events and edit the College magazine! I also make promotional videos and posters to keep you all up to date on the fantastic events like pyjama day! This year I want to get everyone involved, especially with the magazine, so please get in touch if you’re interested - your input is what makes the magazine so great! So please get involved! It’s simple, just email me or pop into the SA office and help me to make this year and the next brilliant!

Trudie Ryalls, Environmental Officer

Hi everyone! My job is to keep Farnborough 6th’s green status running, and improve it even further where I can. I will do this using my own ideas as well as anybody else’s throughout the College. Anybody is always able to contact me with any ideas or questions and I will be more than willing to reply! I don’t just hope- but am sure I will- promote the greener way of life to the student body and even the teachers. I’m hoping my creativity and enthusiasm will be my main assistance here as well as an environmental committee made up of other students and of course YOU! Thank you for electing me!!

Jazz Rihal, Events Officer

“Who are you?”
I’m glad you asked, I’m YOUR Events Officer for 2011/12.. I’m a massive music addict and a part-time DJ, studying Music Tech, Maths, Physics and Electronics.
“I’m not really bothered who you are, wha’ you gonna do for me?”
Very good question but I could list anything here, like a paintballing tournament, continuing the Live Lunch events and a ‘party in the park’ on the field, with barbeques and awesome music etc. What’s 1000 times more important is the question “what do YOU want me to organise (within or away from the college grounds)?”
“OK… but isn’t it a bit soon to ask for your details: like, I only just met you?”
No! Keep in mind, I’m just another student like you. If you want AMAZING events throughout the year then conversations between you and me should be easy. Not just easy, REALLY easy. So, feel more then welcome to add me on Facebook (Jazz Rihal) and let me know your thoughts or just introduce yourself. In return, I WILL make the year ahead a fantastic one.
