The Student Association
At the heart of the College community is the Students' Association. Each year, students elect a President, Vice President, and members of a committee to organise student affairs within the College. The President is a member of the Governing Body of the College and is also an influential member of the Governors' Estates Committee, which has the responsibility for overseeing the development of the College buildings.
The Students' Association is also responsible for organising the social activities within the College, and for charitable fund-raising and organising publications about student life.
In recent years, the Students' Association has become increasingly important in representing students' views - and, through the President, in having a real voice on the future directions of the College.

Richard Acton, President I am Richard Acton; in my role as President I lead and coordinate the activities of the SA. I also act as a link between the students and the Principalship. Josie and I are full voting members of the board of governors so have real decision making powers about the running of the College. I aim this year to boost the visibility of the student association in College so you are more aware of what we are doing and can engage more in the process. I am involved in all aspects of college life, be it meetings, sack races or having beans poured on my head. The primary concern of my position, however, remains the education that you receive at college; high quality education for all is a personal passion. Finally, I encourage you to come and talk to me about any subject you should which to discuss, the student association and my role exist to serve the needs of the students whatever form they take.

Josie Copeland, Vice President Hi there, I’m Josie Copeland. My role is to support the President and work closely with staff and students to ensure every voice is heard. I also manage the tutor rep system and am a student voice on the College’s committees for Health & Safety and Equality & Diversity. My main aim this year is to introduce more ways for people to meet and make friends, making the college experience a better one for everyone! I urge everyone to get involved as much as you can in college, and make the most of these 2 years (as, believe me, they’ll fly by!) If anyone has any questions, worries or suggestions don’t hesitate to drop by the office!

Maddy Sakakini, Charities Hey everyone! I'm Maddy and my role in the SA is to organise and run charity events in college. With help from the SA and my committee of tutor reps, I decide which charities to sponsor and how we are going to both raise awareness of the charity’s work and, of course, raise money! The SA function as a team of individuals that represent the student voice, so if you have any exciting ambitions for fundraising this year, please feel free to get in touch - I would love to hear your ideas! We have an outstanding reputation for being generous and willing to get involved, both directly in the community and during the many charity events we organise throughout the year. While the SA coordinates these, it is your lively enthusiasm that makes them a success. Whether it's sleeping outside in the cold, singing karaoke or dressing up, you can always be sure that you'll have ridiculous amounts of fun, while supporting incredible causes. I hope to continue this and raise even more money for charity next year.

Lottie Harding, Community Links Hello there! My name is Lottie Harding and my job is to sustain and broaden the College’s links with the community - that can range from organising enrichment activities such as Coppers, with Henry Tyndale School, to getting you guys out and about volunteering (which is not only a terrific way to meet new people but also looks great when applying to Uni or jobs!) and so much more! This year I want to set up a page dedicated to job vacancies and improving those CV’s and UCAS forms by getting you more involved with the community! I have a great committee behind me which ensures all of this happens- so just drop me an email and come along to our next meeting if you want to get involved!

Sophie Carman, Treasurer Hey everyone, I'm Sophie Carman and my role on the SA is to deal with all the money, including everything raised from charity events and ticket sales. I also help the other members of the SA with organising all types of events from parties to meetings with visitors to the College. This year, I want to look at introducing loyalty cards to the cafeterias and possible ways in which the queues might move more quickly. I also want to set up a more visible system of recording the SA accounts so you can see where you money is going. Most of all, I just want to see everyone getting involved in whatever's happening at college because the time will literally fly by, so please everyone have lots of fun! :)

Amy Grandvoinet, Personalised Learning Officer Hello! I’m Amy Grandvoinet. Basically, it’s my responsibility to make sure your learning experience at Farnborough is the best it can possibly be! I’ll need your input to get what you want done, a committee and lots of ideas in order to help things work effectively. I hope to get everyone more involved in academic life at College, both inside and outside the classroom. Once academia’s down, we can let the fun times roll; the [cheesy] motto ‘work hard, play hard’ suits my position perfectly! As you can probably tell from my severe over-usage of exclamation marks, I’m very enthusiastic in wanting to make this year a great one. Suggestions welcome!

Rob Vaughan, Environmental Officer Hey there, I'm Rob Vaughan, this year's Environmental officer! My role in the student association essentially involves helping to keep the college as green as possible. This means liaising with both staff and students about, new, fresh, creative ways to raise awareness about the modern world's environmental issues. Together, from this, I hope we can encourage students to take a more active role in caring for the planet and, ultimately, involve students in conservation projects, cutting down on our waste production, and our energy consumption. I think it's important that environmentalism is as simple as possible for our students, and to make this something we can all enjoy doing!
