Welcome
Welcome to The Sixth Form College Farnborough. I am delighted that you wish to find out more about the College and I hope this Website will help you to understand the many opportunities available to you here.
Our aim is to provide a lively and caring college community where you will be valued as a person and encouraged to enjoy learning in a mature community of young people, all aged 16-19. You will be expected to work hard … but you will also be given support to do it.
The College has a strong commitment to provide you with the qualifications and skills to meet the demands of our ever-changing world – and we want you to move on from here with real confidence and assurance. As many hundreds of our students discover each year, it is an ideal preparation for Higher Education and employment, and many universities, colleges and employers are eager to offer places to our students.
In many ways, there has never been a better time to come to the College:
- we are recognised as one of the country's outstanding centres for sixth form studies, a designation recently confirmed by Ofsted;
- the new iconic building at the heart of the College is to be opened in September 2009, improving further the excellent facilities;
- our advice is frequently sought by government officials and curriculum specialists on how successfully to implement new approaches to teaching and learning; and
- we continue to enjoy Beacon Status as one of the country’s top colleges.
Although some schools have now started to call their sixth forms sixth form colleges, a specialist sixth form college like Farnborough provides a very different experience from a school sixth form. This College concentrates all its resources and expertise on teaching 16-19 year old students who come from a wide variety of schools, many with sixth forms of their own. They quickly discover that they are in a community of young people all of whom want to succeed in their studies. Everybody recognises that hard work is necessary - but they all enjoy the experience of being here.
I am convinced that transferring to a specialist sixth form college like this is an important stage in the development of young people. If you are offered a place, you will make many new friends, you will have experienced the process of moving from school to college, and you will have an opportunity to benefit from what Ofsted has described as "the best sixth form teaching in the country".
If you are willing to contribute as a committed and enthusiastic student to the continuing success of the College, you are welcome to join us. But you must apply in good time - last year we had over 3000 applications for the 1600 places available.
