Personal Finance (Level 2)
Leading to the ifs School of Finance Certificate in Personal Finance, this is a practical one year qualification. The course gives individuals the opportunity to develop skills that are relevant to everyday life and situations.
WHAT WILL I BE STUDYING?
The various sources of money including earned income, inheritance, benefits and borrowing.
Banking including saving, borrowing and automated banking tools.
Budgeting and who the key people / organisations are in personal finance.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING IN LESSONS?
Lessons will involve practical involvement with budgeting, planning spending, completing banking paperwork, making transactions and learning about the various approaches to financial management. Educational visits to banks, financial institutions and guest speakers will broaden students’ experiences of personal finance and problem solving will develop skills of how to appropriately manage finances.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
All units will be assessed via an online testing system.
There are three units; two of which involve completing 18 stand-alone multiple-choice questions and 4 sets of stimulus material each with 3 associated questions. The pass mark for both these unit objective test is 50% (15 marks from the 30 marks available).
The final unit comprises of 10 stand-alone multiple-choice questions and 2 sets of stimulus material each with 5 associated questions. The pass mark for this objective test is 50% (10 marks from the 20 marks available).
To achieve a pass, learners are required to achieve a pass of 50% in each unit.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED TO TAKE THIS COURSE?
At least two GCSEs at grade D or better, preferably including English Language and Mathematics. However, we like to look at individual achievements and will consider a range of qualifications and experience.

WHAT CAN I TAKE ALONGSIDE THE NATIONAL CERTIFICATE?
Students can take additional one year courses such as GCSE, BTEC , OCR courses or AS level.

AND AFTER THE COURSE?
Although this subject is not available at Advanced level, it will provide valuable life skills and may contribute to the range of qualifications needed to progress to advanced level study in the college or elsewhere.
