Sarah McCarthy-Fry to visit Farnborough Sixth Form College
The College will have the opportunity to welcome the new Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Schools and Learners, Sarah McCarthy-Fry MP, on Thursday 6 November. Her office requested a visit to Farnborough Sixth Form College so that she could see at first hand an outstanding college in action.
The Minister will spend the morning meeting students and staff in the context of normal teaching and learning, and she will see the way in which the curriculum is delivered in the context of the College's commitment to prepare young people to move on to higher education and employment. Mrs McCarthy Fry will see applied learning in the context of A level and the new IT Advanced Diploma which the College is piloting.
Farnborough Sixth Form College pioneered the Extended Project, the AQA Bacc and the new A star grade for A level. The Minister will hear of the College's plans for further innovation and see the site of the new £7 million iconic building at the heart of the College.
Principal Dr John Guy said, "We are delighted to welcome the Minister. The College is seen as a beacon for post-16 teaching and we hope to be able to influence Ministerial thinking so that any further reforms are well thought-out and based upon excellent innovative practice such as that at this College."
