Secretary of State changes thresholds: the amended presentation from the Higher Education Finance ta
The Secretary of State for Universities, Innovation and Skills, John Denham, announced yesterday (29 October 2008) that he was making changes to the proposed student grant scheme for those starting higher education in September 2009.
He is reducing the family threshold income for those students entitled to a partial grant to £50,020. The Higher Education Finance talk given last week referred to this an unlikely possibility - it has become a reality!
The presentation has been amended to show the changed limit for partial grant eligibility but the precise details are still unknown. We will provide information via the website when we know the figures. In the words of the Secretary of State: "I propose to lay before Parliament Amending Regulations to adjust the eligibility for student grants and loans. Following approval by Parliament, they will take some weeks to implement. I have asked the Student Loans Company to begin processing applications for student support in the New Year.
