Students at Farnborough Sixth Form College got into the pink last week as they raised over £1000 for the Breast Cancer Campaign. Leading by example, student charities officer, Chris Holt, 18, of Fleet, sported a bright pink dinner suit throughout the day and the whole College community got involved in fund raising activities with a difference.

The lunchtime karaoke competition attracted over 750 students, and even Principal Dr John Guy was persuaded to lead the singing of Puppet on a String! The fancy dress competition was won by Student President, Theo McCusker, who painted his entire body pink, and Gary and Jo Mayne of Candy Floss Carts supplied pink candy floss throughout the entertainments.

Chris Holt said, “The day was a fantastic success and it was great that everyone was so enthusiastic and willing to come to College dressed in so many different pink ways!”

He added, “Breast cancer has touched the lives of so many families and it is important to raise awareness in the College and to find ways to contribute to the research funding to tackle the disease –the pink theme seems to have grabbed students’ imagination”.

Chris’s next task is to mount a campaign for the Children in Need Appeal and already he is turning his attention to the College Rag Week next April.

Speaking after the karaoke, College Principal Dr John Guy, said, “It was a remarkable achievement by the Chris and his team to inspire the whole College to become involved”.
