Students' work in major College exhibition is praised
Students art work challenges universities
Over 300 talented students from Farnborough Sixth Form College displayed their A level art work in a major exhibition held in the College’s Dame Kelly Holmes Sports Centre this week.
Opening the exhibition attended by over 600 parents and visitors, Jon Marks, Director of Faculty, said, “Although I see the work of individual students and groups on a daily basis, seeing it displayed together in one exhibition underlines the wonderful talent of our students - and the dedication and commitment of the teaching staff.”
Senior Curriculum Manager for Art, Dean Piacentini, said, “The range of media and the balance of work is a wonderful reflection of the imagination and creativity of these young people.”
The Chairman of Governors, William Bagnall, presented awards and commented on the enthusiasm of both students and teachers. He said, “I have attended many art exhibitions of degree and professional qualifications standards and it is hard to believe that this is the work of 18 year old A level students.”
Among the award winners were, Adam Kelly, 18, of Camberley, whose main piece was a two dimensional block collage of his cousin, Wojtek. Adam said, “It has been inspirational being at Farnborough Sixth Form College and I am really proud to have won this award.” Next year, Adam will be undertaking the Foundation Art Course at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham.
Laura Clements, 18, of Farnborough won the graphics prize for her consistent high standards and for the growth in sophistication and quality of her work, particularly in the second year. Laura said, “I was overwhelmed to win the graphics prize because the standard of all the work was so high – I am really, really pleased and proud.” Next year, Laura will be developing her creative talents by undertaking a degree in Creative Writing and English at the University of East Anglia.
Speaking to the students at the exhibition, College Principal, Dr John Guy said, “I am continually surprised and delighted by the achievements of our students and this exhibition would put many graduate exhibitions in the shade.”
