Ten students and three teachers from the Presbyterian Secondary Technical School in Aburi travelled from Ghana to spend ten days in the UK. They are staying with host families of students from The Sixth Form College who went to the school in Ghana last June for ten days.
They arrived on the the morning of the Sixth Form College’s Fun Run which is raising some money for our partner school.

While here the students will be going to lessons and working on a project called Choose Life, Avoid Aids. This will be a joint project with the students researching various aspects of HIV/Aids in their own countries. They will then produce a joint project which will be published and distributed to each school. The Sixth Form College will use this information in their tutorial programme and the school in Ghana will use it in their social and health education lessons. Last year both schools produced an excellent report on the water usage in both countries, which was very informative and made our students aware of water as a global issue.
The students will also be working on a joint banner using textiles to illustrate our partnership. We are hoping to produce two so that each institution will be able to hang it up so all students will see it. This is an exciting project as it will be a colourful and visible demonstration of our commitment to a long term relationship.
Each school will be teaching different dances to each other which they will perform in the welcoming ceremony on Tuesday 1st April. The students and staff from Ghana will be welcomed by Farnborough Sixth Form College’s music department playing the Ghanaian national anthem and the Ghanaian students will be sharing and exchanging their musical expertise with our students also.
This is an exciting cultural exchange and we are all looking forward to the visit.
