The student-organised Farnborough 6 Fun Run gets £500 boost from MUMS
Local Business backs Farnborough Fun Run
Farnborough’s new Farnborough 6 Fun Run, organised for the community by students from Farnborough Sixth Form College, has received a major boost thanks to a local business. The event, in its inaugural year, will be held at the College on Sunday 30 March 2008, and will provide a six and three mile road run, as well as a 1 mile fun run held on the college grounds. Michael Usher Mortgage Services of Frimley have demonstrated their support by providing sponsorship worth £500.
Managing Director Michael Usher said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our company to support a very good cause which has everything: it will encourage people to take some exercise, it provides a great educational experience for the students organising it and, finally, it gives an excellent opportunity to raise funds for two worthy charities. How could I say no?”
James Simms, Head of PE at the college, said: “This sponsorship is a real boost for the event. The funds will allow the student organising committee to use their imagination to provide a fantastic day for all the family”.
Mr Simms added: “It also means that the students can be confident that a significant sum of money will be donated to the two nominated charities: Ghana Link and WheelPower”.
The Farnborough 6 Fun Run will see up to 400 local people take to the Farnborough streets. All entrants are encouraged to raise further funds for charity through sponsorship, while half of all entry monies will be donated to the charitable fund.
The students have done a remarkable job to establish the fun run. Chairperson of the students’ organising group, Jemma Siemak, 18, of Church Crookham said: “When you try to do something really special like this, people just want to help you and Mr Usher’s donation is an excellent example of this - we’re all really grateful.”
Jemma added: “We want all kinds of people to take part on Sunday 30 March! No matter what your age, no matter what your fitness level, we want you to come and get involved!”
