Performing Arts students mount college talent competition
Students impress judges
Talented students from Farnborough Sixth Form College went head to head last week to discover who really had the X-factor. In an exciting evening at the College’s Prospect Theatre, six acts which had won their way through to the finals faced the harsh comments of judges to raise money for Breast Cancer Campaign.
The winner was Bonnie Trevellyan, 18, of Farnborough, singing Eva Cassidy’s version of Over the Rainbow. In the preliminary rounds Bonnie had enthralled the packed audience with her brilliant interpretations of Heard it through the Grape Vine and Chasing Pavements.
Beaten into a very narrow second place was John Moody, 16, of Frimley, who delighted the audience with his version of Moon Dance by Michael Bubble.
Judges for the event were former College student Ellie Chidgzey from the Rocky Horror show, Posh Al from the Peter Gordon breakfast show on 96.4 Eagle radio, Tom Stevens, an accomplished local performer and teacher of Music Technology at the College and the President of the College’s Student Association, Mo Saqib.
Posh Al was astonished by the quality of the acts she saw on the evening. “I had no idea that I would see performances of such high quality at the College – it has been really difficult to decide which of the many high quality acts should be the winner”, she said.
Bonnie will now be invited to sit in on the 96.4FM early morning Eagle radio show and then have breakfast with the team. But Posh Al was so impressed with John Moody’s performance that she declared, “I think we will invite both Bonnie and John to the show – they have been brilliant!”
Bonnie said, “It is a fantastic feeling winning the competition – I was runner up last year but it is really special to be voted as the student with the X-factor!”
