Emerald Ensemble delight Farnborough Audience

The Farnborough Music Society Concert Programme was reborn last night under the auspices of Farnborough Sixth Form College.  Director of Music at the College, Paul Bambrough, welcomed a packed audience in the Prospect Theatre to the first of the 2006/7 concerts by Bristol's renowned professional chamber orchestra, the Emerald Ensemble.

Led by Roger Huckle, the orchestra played Handel's Music for Royal Fireworks to the accompaniment of distant sounds of rockets in the Farnborough night sky.  The work was played with energy, feeling and enjoyment by the musicians, to the delight of the audience.

The second half programme was the work of Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla, Cuatra Estaciones Portenas - The Four Seasons  of Buenos Aires.  Intended to be interleaved with Vivaldi's Four Seasons, the tempi and moods of the piece revealed the different weather of the southern hemisphere.  Piazzolla's works typically reflect his passion for a mixture of jazz, classical and tango music - and the skill and feeling of the Emerald Ensemble players left the audience entranced by a magical and exciting performance which demanded three curtain calls.

Members of the Farnborough Music Society left the College in high spirits, not only because of the musical experience but also because the audience was rejuvenated by the presence of many A level students studying music at the College giving optimism for the future.
