Ten music scholars from Farnborough Sixth Form College gave a powerful concert of individual pieces in the Prospect Theatre on Wednesday evening, holding the audience spellbound by the quality of their musicianship.
The evening began with Sevan Houston, a first year student, playing Leonardo Vinci’s Adagio and Allegro for Saxaphone. Sevan, who is a first year student studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Physics and Music, played with imagination and sensitivity. In a duet, he also accompanied fellow saxophonist, Amy Wellen, a second year student studying Maths, Further Maths, Biology and Music.
Vicky Tay and Sarah Brown sang a wonderful duet from the Marriage of Figaro, as well as playing instrumental pieces on the violin and flute respectively. Other soloists were second year students Lucinda Cowing (piano and French horn), Ellen Hunter (oboe), Bethan Sutton (flute) and Max Welford (clarinet). Sarah and Bethan also played a beautiful flute duet to the delight of the audience.
First year student, Josh Armstrong, played a piece by the Italian composer Girolamo Frescobaldi with great composure and confidence, and Daniel Barnes performed Hartley’s Suite for unaccompanied tuba.
Finally, Daniel’s arrangement of the can-can was played with energy and obvious enjoyment by all ten music scholars to end a wonderful evening of musicianship.
