LSC Regional Director presents awards to College students
Outstanding A level work at College described as graduate standard
Nearly 1000 family members and visitors attended the newly established exhibition of art by A level students at Farnborough Sixth Form College this week. Their work was the culmination of two years study at the College and it was exhibited in the newly opened Dame Kelly Holmes Sports Centre.
Speaking to the students and guests at the private viewing and awards evening on Monday, Martin Lamb, South East Regional Director for the Learning and Skills Council, said, “I have seen work here which would be celebrated by final year undergraduates; you should all be very proud of your achievements and the manner in which you have displayed such impressive collections of art.”
He added, "The Learning and Skills Council is very pleased with the achievements of Farnborough Sixth Form College - you are lucky to have studied in such a highly regarded College."
Six students received particular awards for outstanding work, among them 17 year old Katy Gravett of Sandhurst who won the award for A level graphics. Next year, Katy will study Graphic Design at the Winchester School of Art.
Katy said, “I was really surprised to be given this award because the standard of work in graphics by everybody was so high; it is a real honour for my work to have been singled out.”
The award for 3 Dimensional Art was won by 18 year old James Clement of Camberley who will be studying three dimensional design and special effects at the University of Hertfordshire in September. James said, “I have greatly enjoyed studying at Farnborough Sixth Form College and I would recommend it to anybody. Out of such a large group of students, I am really proud to have won this award.”
Other award winners were Rose McDowell, 18 of Aldershot for Textiles, Emma Denney, 18, of Farnborough for Photography, Florence Spurling, 18, of Henley for Fine Art, and Sophie Deeley, 18, of Frimley for the A level Double Award in Art.
Speaking after the awards evening, Chairman of Governors, Mr William Bagnall, said, "It is a delight to see such magnificent achievements displayed so professionally in the new sports centre. The Governors are proud of this College and it is clear to see why it achieved the formal designation of Outstanding from Ofsted earlier in the year."
