Film and Media students win College Oscars for their work
Tinseltown - Oscars come to Farnborough
Students from Farnborough Sixth Form College caught a glimpse of an Oscars future when the Prospect Theatre played host to the Annual Media and Film Awards to celebrate their achievements.
The Oscar-style ceremony was an opportunity to showcase the practical work submitted by the 2007 A level and National Award students and featured a display of exemplary print work and a compilation of the best videos. There were nominations for a range of categories including best short film, film trailer, music video, comedy and documentary.
The award for Outstanding Achievement was given to Mark Carter, 18, from Camberley for his stunning stop-motion film that also scooped the Best Animation Award.
Among the guests present was Peter Eyre, a television director who has previously produced Brainiac and Dimbleby on Sunday. Congratulating the College at the end of the ceremony he said: “I am particularly struck by both the students’ and teachers’ evident enthusiasm for their work and pride in their achievements. There is no doubt that these students will have come away from the College with a deeper understanding of the creative decision making and technical requirements that go in to making a TV programme”.
With over 900 students, the Media department at the College is now the largest centre for Media and Film A levels in the country and is recognised by The Good Schools Guide for achieving the Best Results at AS Level for girls and boys at any English school.
Rob Temple, Head of Film and Media at the College said: “The evening provides a unique opportunity for our students to exhibit their work in front of a huge audience; it is a fantastic way for them to mark the end of their time at College”.
College Principal Dr John Guy said, “The standards achieved by students each year is remarkable and we are able to provide facilities which challenge even the very best university centres in this significant field”.
