Lion Kings of the Stage

Students from Henry Tyndale Special School and Farnborough Sixth Form College staged a magnificent production of The Lion King before a packed audience of parents and friends in the College’s Prospect Theatre last month. The production was the culmination of the term’s joint activities between the College and Coppers, the post-16 unit of Henry Tyndale School based in Fleet.

Each of the Coppers students was supported on stage by a college student. Star of the show was 18 year old Lee Humphrey of Henry Tyndale School who played Simba, supported by Matt Tatton, 17, of Camberley.

Matt said, “Lee was brilliant – a born actor!”.

Abby Berridge, 18, of Frimley Green, masterminded the production as part of the enrichment activities in the College. She said, “It was a bit scary as we came towards the day of the production because so many things could go wrong – but everybody was magnificent and the show was a great success”.

Abby and her fellow students at the College had organised the entire event, designing props and scenery, costumes and choreography, as well as providing a choir and a technical crew.

Congratulating her and all the students after the performance, College Principal, Dr John Guy, said, “This production was an enormous responsibility and you carried it off like true professionals with minimal assistance from teachers at the College. We all admire and congratulate you”.

Headteacher of Henry Tyndale School, Rob Thompson, told the audience, “This was the third year of the joint productions between the school and the college, but tonight was the best ever. I am proud of the achievements of all the students”.
