Swimming team triumphant at Hampshire Schools' Championships
On Sunday 14 October the swimming team headed to Southampton Quays for the Hampshire Schools’ Swimming Association Team Championships.
The first event was the girls’ 200m freestyle; Farnborough were fortunate to have drawn lane 4 and their main rivals, Peter Symonds College from Winchester, were swimming in the next lane. Annabel Scally went out on the first leg and held on tightly to the Peter Symonds’, swimmer touching in second. She was followed by Jessica Granville and Holly Montgomery who both had good swims keeping tight on the shoulder of the Symonds’ team. Finally, the explosive Faline Chapman hit the water, and turned just ahead. She rocketed back on the return leg, taking first place two seconds ahead! The team finished in a brilliant time of 1.57.63.
The boys’ team were next in the water. Gavin Suen swam the first leg giving Farnborough a comfortable lead over Collyer’s College in second place. Jai Allen, Kieran Brunt and Oliver Weedon followed, all extending the Farnborough lead over the other competitors. The boys finished in a time of 1.41.17: our fastest team since 2009.
The medley relays followed and once again both teams swam flawlessly to victory. Four events, four gold medals and another successful year in the pool!
The teams have now qualified for the National Finals in November as one of the sixteen fastest teams in the country. This is a fantastic achievement; the College is proud of you all. Good luck to all of you for the Nationals!
