Three Business Studies students from the Farnborough Sixth Form College are placed second in a Natio

Three Business Studies students from the Farnborough Sixth Form College were placed second in a National Management Competition organised by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) held in London in recently. Eight finalists from Colleges across the country competed for the coveted awards.

Daniel Purdy, Matt Sawyer and Corrine Harrison won their accolade for their professional and persuasive presentation of a new concept training shoe inspired by the successful London 2012 Olympic bid. The students had included within their design a built-in pedometer and heart monitor.

Corrine, 18, of Fleet, said: “It was great to apply what we had learnt to a real situation – and have a chance to win something for our efforts”.

Daniel, 18, of Farnborough, said: “I didn’t expect to do so well because the other presentations were really good! Ours must have been better than we thought!”

Each student won an iPod and a £50 HMV voucher while the college received a cheque for £500 and a Tiffany & Co glass trophy. Fellow student Charlotte Webb, 18, of Crowthorne, received the same prize for her effort in putting the report together despite not being able to attend the finals.

Matt, 18, of Aldershot said: “The final was a great day out and the prizes made all the work worthwhile.”

This is the third year that Business Studies students from the Sixth Form College have reached the final. Business Studies tutor Anja Harwood said: “Students enjoy the opportunity to use their imagination and business acumen to come up with a novel product and the competition fits in very well with their advanced course.”
