College Sportsnight Celebrations

Sportsnight CelebrationsFarnborough Sixth Form College students Roy Cockram, 17, of Hartley Wintney, and Sophie Tanner, 18, of Frimley Green, were named Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year at the College's Annual Sportsnight Dinner held at Pine Ridge Golf Club on Friday evening.

Head of Sport and PE, Graham Thompson, announced the awards at the end of an evening of trophy presentations to the Players' Player of the Year and Manager's Player of the Year for each of the teams in Rugby, Football, Netball, Basketball, Hockey, Badminton, and Cricket.

Announcing the Sportsman of the Year, Mr Thompson said, "Roy Cockram is a talented sportsman across a range of sports . He has made a fantastic contribution to the College Hockey team and he has just been awarded the Manager's Player of the Year for Cricket. He played a pivotal role in the Cricket team's victory in the Hampshire Schools and Colleges Altham Trophy at the Rosebowl Stadium in Southampton last summer and is currently playing for the Hampshire men's second team. In addition, he throws a mean javelin!"

In his citation for Sophie Tanner, Graham Thompson said, "Sophie has not only helped the College Hockey team to win the Hampshire Cup in two successive seasons, she is also a star of the College Tennis Team and has made a wonderful contribution to developing sport across the whole College in her role as Sports Officer of the Student Association".

The College is celebrating one of its most successful sporting years ever which culminated with an 88 strong touring party to Cyprus where the college students defeated a number of local and national teams.
