18 year old Farnborough Sixth Form College student, Rob Sherwood, has been selected to join the Great Britain U20 Ultimate Frisbee Team playing in the World Championships in Boston USA in August.
Rob, who had not played competitive frisbee before attending the College was introduced to the sport by college philosophy tutor, Peter Wright, himself a member of the Great Britain senior ultimate frisbee squad.
Rob has captained the College team which competed in the London winter league this year, beating several university teams, including Southampton, Oxford and Brunel, before succumbing to the might of the Cambridge University first team.
Rob was one of several Farnborough students who attended national trials in the spring but he only heard last week that he had been selected to join the U20 squad competing in the States. Rob said, "I am delighted and proud to be representing my country in Ultimate Frisbee and to play my part in increasing the popularity and interest in the sport".
Tutor Peter Wright said, "I am really pleased with the development of the sport in the College and I know that Rob will be an excellent ambassador for both the country and the College".
College Principal, Dr John Guy, said, "The College team under Peter's coaching has achieved magnificent results this year and we all wish Rob great success in the world championships. The College is immensely proud of him".
