Travel and Tourism

The travel and tourism industy is dynamic, wide-ranging and fast-growing and it offers a huge variety of employment opportunities.  This interesting and challenging course will help you to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding you need for employment or Higher Education.
 
At AS level, you will focus on developing an understanding of the travel and tourism industry and its individual sectors.  You will explore the significance of tourism in the UK and Europe, and consider why different tourist destinations appeal to a range of customers.
 
At A2, you will be encouraged to develop a more critical understanding of the travel and tourism industry through a range of research techniques.  You will be required to set up, manage and run an event which forms the main part of the coursework unit.
 
WHAT WILL I BE STUDYING?
AS units are:
·         Introducing travel and tourism
·         Travel destinations
 
A2 units are:
·         Tourism impacts and Tourism development
·         Event management in travel and tourism
 
WHAT WILL I BE DOING IN LESSONS?
You will have the opportunity to work as part of a team, learn to plan effectively, and to undertake and evaluate mini travel and tourism projects. The emphasis will be on research and problem solving through assignments which focus on travel and tourism in the UK and Europe.  Day visits and residential trips in the UK and Europe form an integral part of the  course.  
 
HOW WILL THE COURSE BE ASSESSED?
You will be assessed via assignments and examinations. You are required to complete two coursework assignments and to sit two external examinations across the A level.
 
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED TO TAKE THE COURSE?
You should have at least a grade C in both GCSE Mathematics and English Language.  However we like to look at individual achievements and will consider a range of qualifications and experience. An ability to research information and meet deadlines is important.
 
WHAT OTHER SUBJECTS CAN I DO WITH TRAVEL AND TOURISM?
Travel and Tourism combines well with all subjects. Popular combinations include Business Studies, Geography, Leisure Studies, Modern Foreign Languages and Media Studies..
 
AND AFTER THE COURSE?
Travel and Tourism is a useful qualification for a wide range of university courses. You could continue your studies in Higher Education on a degree course or HND. You could combine employment with job related training and gain further accreditation for your skills and experience through an NVQ training programme.
