College Concerts 2011

Please find below information about our forthcoming College Concerts.

All concerts start at 7.30 pm and take place at the Prospect Theatre, unless otherwise specified.

Tickets are either free of charge or £5.00, depending on the event, and are available from our Box Office on 01252 688219 except for The Choral Society Concert Opera - La Passione - which will take place at Camberley Theatre and tickets are available from their Box Office on 01276 707600.

It is advisable to book tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

Friday 10th February - What Sweeter Music – Music Scholars’ Concert
An evening of chamber music presented by the Music Scholars in the Castle’s evocative Great Hall.

Friday 24th February - Song Masterclass with Professor Julian Pike from the Birmingham Conservatoire.

Saturday 10th March - The Rhythm of Life – Glee Concert
A sparkling, toe-tapping, roller coaster evening of show tunes, popular songs and well loved classics presented by the department’s new contemporary music company. A debut not to be missed!

Wednesday 28th March - NCE & Big Band Concert
The department’s premier ensembles’ second concert of the year includes some classic vocal duets with Big Band.

Wednesday April 25th - O Quam Gloriosum – Chamber Choir Lunch- time Concert, tour, tea and Evensong
A lunchtime concert of sacred choral music presented by the Chamber Choir in this remarkable building. Well worth the journey!

Wednesday 2nd May - La Passione – Opera Gala Evening
Choral Society, student soloists and professional orchestra join forces for a very special evening of operatic excerpts including popular works by Verdi, Puccini and Bizet.

Saturday 19th May - If Music Be the Food of Love
The College’s Music Scholars travel to Bristol to give a lunchtime recital of solo repertoire.
1.00pm – the Lord Mayor’s Chapel, Bristol

Friday 1st June - We’ll meet again.... Leavers’ Concert
The department’s annual concert in which we say thank you and goodbye to second year students. Featuring many of the department’s ensembles, this is always the perfect send off for those leaving us.

Wednesday 27th & Thursday 28th June - Brigadoon
Two lost hunters stumble across the mysterious and foggy world of Brigadoon. What do they find there? Who do they meet? Do they ever leave? Find out as this wonderful musical is brought to life by a large cast and orchestra in our fully staged production. Not to be missed and a brilliant finale to the year’s music!

Lunchtime Concerts

Throughout the year every Friday at 12.30pm in the Music Department these informal concerts feature students preparing for their recitals as well as many lighter items. Bring your own lunch - no ticket required!

The department regularly provides music for charity events and private functions including:

 • Barbershop quartets at Abercorn House, Farnborough.
• String Quartet at the Bishop’s Foundation Dinner in the Watts Gallery in Guildford.
• Jazz Ensemble performing at a children’s cancer charity dinner at Foxhills Country Club.
• Carol singing at Sunrise care home in Fleet.
